Story:
Narayana Murthy came from a middle-class family in Mysore. Brilliant in studies, he graduated in electrical engineering and earned a master’s degree from IIT Kanpur. Early in his career, he worked abroad — but a train ride in Eastern Europe changed his life.
While in Bulgaria in the 1970s, he was detained for 72 hours without food or water. That moment sparked a personal transformation.
He returned to India with a dream:
To build a company with integrity that would put India on the global tech map.
In 1981, with just ₹10,000 borrowed from his wife Sudha Murty, he co-founded Infosys with six friends. They started in a tiny apartment, without computers or much infrastructure.
But Murthy’s core values — transparency, discipline, and simplicity — shaped Infosys into a symbol of trust.
Over the decades, Infosys became a global IT powerhouse, employing thousands and pioneering India’s software exports.
